#marchforourlives on the Newton Green today. We are so proud of our students for taking a stand and making their voices heard. We were blown away by their intelligent speeches, all of them on point. Let's make sure these students know that we have their backs every step of the way in this fight for sensible gun laws. #notonemore @ Newton, New Jersey ... See MoreSee Less

For Immediate Release:

Lonegan Set to Hold Pro-Gun Rally at Oroho/Space/Wirths Office days after Parkland Massacre

Steve Lonegan, Republican candidate for Congress, will be holding a Pro-Gun rally outside of Legislative District 24 legislators Steve Oroho, Parker Space and Hal Wirths’ office this Friday, February 23, 2018, just days after 17 lives were lost at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Lonegan’s Facebook announcement calls this a counter protest to “The Sussex County Democrats and the radical NJEA...” He was referring to a gun violence prevention event that was planned by local citizens and activist groups.

Lonegan falsely claimed that his rally counters a protest “led by former assembly candidates Kate Matteson and Gina Trish.” In fact, any rally or protest that has or is being planned has not been led or coordinated by either Trish or Matteson, Democratic groups, or the NJEA, but by concerned citizens of the district who are freely exercising their first amendment rights. Lonegan is shamelessly exploiting Matteson, Trish, and other uninvolved parties to advance his congressional agenda in the wake of a national tragedy.

It is sad to see Lonegan congregating at the LD 24 legislators’ offices to re-enforce their pro-NRA agenda just days after a terrible mass shooting. A responsible congressional candidate would offer solutions to the epidemic of gun violence that plagues our nation. In fact, Lonegan’s only solution to mass shootings in America so far is to call for instituting prayer in public schools.

Kate and Gina mourn the senseless loss of human life to gun violence in America once again, and are hopeful that the youth affected by the most recent tragedy will create a wave of change where citizens stand up to the NRA lobby to create a safer environment. Let’s join together and work for a new America where our children’s lives are valued over gun sales, political aspirations and NRA contributions.

Happy New Year to all who continue to stay in this quest for balanced and progressive representation in LD 24! We want to provide you with an update on our actions moving forward and how YOU can stay involved to keep the momentum we collectively accomplished in 2017.
The primary goal is to continue to grow the voice of our progressive Democratic values in Northwest New Jersey, and you can help Gina and Kate by staying involved at the town and state levels as we head into 2018. This page will be utilized to keep you up to date on ways you can stay involved, such as Democratic organization events and activities, candidate events as well as the activities of other organizations that help support Democratic candidates. Our primary goal since we have transitioned out of the ‘candidate’ role (for now) is to help build and grow the Democratic presence in our district from 40% to 51% and beyond!
We are also pleased to announce that Kate is taking on the new role of Executive Director of the Sussex County Democrats! Gina will continue working with the Warren County Democrats and Action Together and we will both continue to coordinate and lead other regional groups that help support getting Democrats elected in 2018 and beyond. We are in this for the long haul because we believe in improving this beautiful part of the state that we all love and treasure. We hope you will join us and continue to support our efforts!
We are also excited to announce TWO joint ventures to keep YOU up to date on what is going on with our LD24 legislators, as well as current events in New Jersey that affect our progressive values. We will be announcing these new projects after Governor Murphy’s inauguration!

Together we will keep the momentum going and be a voice for our collective progressive values!
With Gratitude,
Kate Matteson and Gina Trish

Message from Gina: Thank you to all of our wonderful people that not just supported us but SHOWED UP for 8 months straight and made this run possible. I'm so humbled by the kindness that has been shown to Kate and I. So much to be grateful for. The good news - we had the largest showing in decades for Democrats, pulling about 40% of the vote! Guess what Dems, WE ARE NOT ALONE! And we did this with grassroots donations from our supporters - NOT HUNDREDS but TENS of thousands of dollars to pull those numbers up. The rest was hard work and grit by the many people who helped us (which I will list in another post) but special thanks to our core team who I am happy to also call my friends first: Kate (best running mate ever), Ben, Chris, David, Leanne, Joan, Erin, Saily, Shelly, Gayle. Boy have we had some fun and I look forward to working with all of you moving forward to keep fighting the good fight together!
I'm not going to lie, this was a tough defeat personally, not because we lost but why we lost. 40% of us were told by our legislator that we belong somewhere else. This is our home and as long as I live here I'm going to fight for our voice to be heard.
Lot's of work to do here in our district - Sussex, Warren and Mount Olive. Lot's of work to do in our state. Lot's of work to do in our country. This is just the beginning, we're not going anywhere. With admiration, Gina

Sussex County Community College is one of our most precious resources yet it's in trouble due to under funding, increasing tuition burden on our students and low enrollment. As your Assemblywomen we won't stand silent when our county and state officials allow this to happen. Please listen to former student Jason's story about how he was harassed when he took a stand against Senator Oroho and Assemblyman Parker Space. ... See MoreSee Less

We are honored to say that we grew up here! Believe it or not, we played on a little league team together in elementary school! (can you find us in the picture below?!) The reason we are running is because we love our beautiful, rural home, our independent, free-thinking people. We want everyone to prosper while preserving the wonderful things we have. If you cast a vote for us we will provide the leadership that will not just put Northwestern NJ on the map but propel us forward economically. We can't wait to represent YOU! ... See MoreSee Less

20 of our supporters set up a “Food Brigade” for us, including Jennifer Hamilton, providing our families with a healthy meal per week. The community building that has gone on around this campaign is both heart-warming and a true learning experience. Getting involved in local politics can be positive AND personally rewarding. Here is Kieran, 8th grader at Ridge and Valley Charter School, a participant who will also be presenting to his class about the election and his participation.
